C64NIC+ Pre-orders now open!

Submitted by Snogpitch on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 02:17.
  • General Commodore News

For those that know, what this is about, send in your pre-orders now!

For those that do not, check it out:

The C64NIC+ is a Retro Replay/TFE compatable ethernet cartridge. This was a culmination of effort of Jim Brain, CCCC, Eric Pratt and even some ideas from Bil Herd!

Jim has spent a great deal of time engineering a new, low cost ethernet solution and the Cincinnati Commodore Computer Club is now accepting pre-orders.

There are also some surprises on the board, so check out this thread over at retro-hackers:

Provide ROM capabilities

Submitted by UptimeGuarantee... on Tue, 05/05/2009 - 11:26.

What else would you want a cheap NIC to provide?

There are many multi-purpose cards with NIC functionality today (1541U, Retro Replay +RR-NET), I would not expect this to compete with them.

It will provide ROM capabilities, allowing someone to put a ROM-based OS on the unit or put a ROM-bootloader that could pull a complete OS across the Internet to the device (rather like the C128 autoboot, but using the Internet as the drive).

Still, beyond that, it has no other function.

Software...

Hey All,
Was thinking about ordering this BUT what "Terminal program" would be
used with this? I am new to the ethernet idea on my commodore systems and
the $50 price is attractive to me...
